What is the Floodplain Map?
A floodplain map delineates the area that can be expected to flood (Ministry of Environment, 2013). 200-year floodplain maps are usually adapted in BC.A 200-year flood can occur at any time in any given year. The term "200-year flood," is used to describe the recurrence interval of floods.

Use of Floodplain Maps
Floodplain maps are administrative tools which depict minimum elevations for floodproofing (Herbert, Y., Picketts, I., & Lyle, T., 2014). Minimum floodproofing requirements can then be incorporated into building bylaws, subdivision approvals, and local government planning and regulations.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The main objective of this project is to provide an engineering assessment of the vulnerability of public infrastructure and residential areas in Chilliwack River Watershed under projected flood period in conformity with the trend of climate changes. A conceptual systematic process is used to collect and review available data in order to develop an estimation of the relevant climatic influence on risk areas. The assessment requires floodplain maps and flow data that is based on flood frequency analysis. This website presents the results of hydraulic analyses used in floodplain mapping under different flood return periods.
